There are no COVID-19 testing or vaccination requirements for travelers entering Sri Lanka.

Best Time to Visit: Sri Lanka has a complex climate due to its geography. Generally, the best time to visit the west and south coasts and the hill country is from December to March, while the east coast is best from April to September. Be mindful of the monsoon seasons in these areas.

Internet access is good in most major areas of Sri Lanka. Wi-Fi is available at most restaurants, bars, cafes, hotels, and malls, although you’ll find gaps in service in remote areas and villages.

Transportation: Sri Lanka has a diverse transportation system, including buses, trains, and tuk-tuks. Trains offer scenic routes, especially in the hill country. For convenience, safety and to save time, consider hiring a driver for part or all of your journey to ensure that you won’t miss any places of interest.

Language: Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages, with English widely spoken in tourist areas and cities. however, you shouldn’t assume that everyone can speak the language.

Cultural Etiquette: Respect local customs and dress modestly when visiting temples and religious sites. Removing shoes before entering temples and homes is customary. It's also polite to use your right hand for eating and exchanging money or goods.

Sustainable Travel: As Sri Lanka continues to recover from economic challenges and the impact of tourism on its environment, consider sustainable travel practices. Support local businesses, respect wildlife and natural sites, and reduce plastic use.

It is strongly advised not to drink tap water in Sri Lanka. It’s best to stick to treated and filtered water.

Sinhala and Tamil New Year’s Eve is in April each year, typically April 13 or April 14, Christmas is celebrated by everyone in December 24 & 25, while New Year’s Day is usually April 14 or April 15.
